PC3 - Creating The Product Part 1 - Getting the Content
Mar 27th, 2008 | By Stacie | Category: Product CreationWe have our idea. We've gotten organized. And we've decided if this is going to be a single product or a series of products. So the next step in our product creation is to decide how we want to present the product.
You now have to decide two very important things about your product. The content and how you are going to present it.
Where are you going to get the content for your product? There are several places your content can come from:
- Your head: You can write the content yourself. This option is especially good if you are knowledgeable on the subject or have a unique perspective.
- Ghostwriter: No you don't have to go out and hire someone you don't know and trust them with your content. Do you know someone that knows about your subject (I bet if you brainstorm you can think of at least one person), have them help you with the content. Or better yet, interview them (more on that in a bit)
- PLR Material: I'm not crazy about this option. Think about it, if you have this PLR material, how many others do too? Unless you are going to do some serious rewriting, I wouldn't use PLR material. Now with that said, I do use PLR material as a spring board for ideas. It is a very good idea generator, and you have an idea of topics to do keyword research on for your supporting material.
Now don't freak out on me, I can feel the panic rising, lol. I can hear you 'But I'm not a writer!' I have just one question for you 'Can you string together a couple of sentences and they make sense?' Then you're a writer. You do not have to be an English major, matter of fact, it is better if you are not. You want your writing to sound natural, not all stuffy and proper. If you do not have a good grasp of grammar and spelling, have someone look over your writing that does. (One of my biggest pet peeves is a lot of spelling errors, at least use a word processing program with spell check.)
Did you know you can create a product without writing a word? Woohoo! Oh wait a minute, How? Do you have a tape recorder or can you get your hands on one? Or for that matter you can purchase a digital voice recorder at your local discount store for less than $40. Now take your recorder and talk right into it. Pretend you are explaining the process to your best friend that doesn't have a clue. When you are finished you can transcribe it, or have it transcribed. Or, take it a step further and use an audio recording program on your computer (more on that in a bit). As above just transcribe it, and now you actually have two products ready to go. Now I know it may seem a little silly to sit and talk to your computer, but you're not writing are you?
But what if you don't have the knowledge for this particular niche? Where can you get the content? Interview an expert! (or someone knowledgeable on the subject) Make a list of of questions to ask (remember the questions we saw on the forums? Use those for ideas!) As before, just record and transcribe it. Instant product! If you can not meet face to face, use a program such as Skype to record the phone call. *Quick note: this may be common sense, but I'm going to state it anyway - Make sure the person you're interviewing, knows you are recording them. You will also need to have them sign a form that gives you the rights to the product, you can find an example here*
Make sure you check out Part 2 on the presentation of the material.
