PC2 - Picking An Idea

Mar 19th, 2008 | By Stacie | Category: Product Creation

file.gifSo now that we have all our ideas it is time to narrow it down and decide what kind of product we are going to make. Go through your list of ideas and narrow it down to what you want to cover in your product.

First thing we are going to do is get organized. You'll need to decide whether this is going to be a single product or a series or multi part product. You can really stretch your mileage out of one topic by creating a series or multi part product. If your topic seems to build upon itself, such as a 'basic' category, 'intermediate' category, and 'advanced' category. You can very easily build several levels into your product. Or in the same way, you can make each step of a process into a separate product.

As an illustration of this in action, we'll be using the 'gardening' niche from our example earlier. There are many steps that go into having a great flower garden. Your first product in the series could be "Getting The Soil Ready" and be all about the soil in the garden. Next would come "Deciding What Flowers To Plant", it couldbe a guide book to flowers and what grows good in certain climates. Then you would have "Choosing The Seeds", all about, you guessed it, how to choose great seeds. I think you get the picture now. You could sell each on its own or as a set or both.

Plan out your product. Make a list (you knew that was coming didn't you Wink) of topics that are relative to one another, like in our gardening example. Now create an outline so you can put all your ideas into a logical order. Making an outline will also keep you on track when actually creating your product. You won't be wondering 'what do need to do next?' You will move logically from phase one to completion.
